Don't know why, but the Mono and Stereo Muus actually make sound in the Japanese version of Klonoa 2 when choosing a sound option.

This is a capture right from my Japanese PS2:
"Wahii, rupurudu!" = "Okay, let's go!"

im guessing a flute for the mono sound would be a bit awkward idk?

probably flutes are less interesting in NA so they changed it to the lil trumpet thing
Subarashii ~ mirai
Subarashii ~ jidai
Subarashii ~ kako
Subarashii ~ kuni
Subarashii ~ wa ~ ta ~ shi

No, I mean that the sound options make no demo sounds in the North American version of K2.
I don't know if that's the case on the European version, though.
"Wahii, rupurudu!" = "Okay, let's go!"

Cobra!

It would explain why the icons are like that.

I remember Klonoa 1 had something like this as well. Except it was the same sound, but repeated twice at Stereo.

Late follow up but I think I probably know the answer now.

The original Japanese version of K2 only has options for Mono and Stereo, where as the North American copy has a third for Dolby Surround. They probably just removed the test sounds altogether because they didn't feel like making one for the Dolby option for some reason.
"Wahii, rupurudu!" = "Okay, let's go!"
