I need to get around to getting new batteries for these phones and seeing what I can do with them!

I recently borrowed my brother's Switch as I was interested in buying it off him.
I would have thought that given Nintendo's hysteria around their consoles being hacked and emulated, I assumed it was easy enough to do, but it turns out not to be the case at all. Only launch models can be homebrewed without a modchip and even then you need to short out pins to force a recovery mode or something.

Combine that with it not really having any games I wanted with the exception of Mario Odyssey and a new Wario Ware game, it left me with no interest in the console, so I just gave it back to my brother.

It made me realise how locked down and DRMed modern tech is and one of the reasons I much prefer older tech is that it's hackable. Hearing the Switch 2 was hacked less than 24 hours after launch actually piqued my interest in the console a bit!

Speaking of "hackable" devices, I won a Pebble Smartwatch on eBay recently for $10. It was sold for parts but the problems the seller described seem to have solutions online!

If you don't know, Pebble was an open source e-Ink brand of smart watch where you made your own software and watch faces. Looking forward to delving into that!

Yeah, i have no interest in the Switch 1 or 2 either. I've convinced my cousin to hack his Wii U though. And he already did it.  :smile2:
Is this a forum they forgot, or has the forum forgot them?

In some cases, hacking is necessary nowadays. Symbian with its certificate system for example

I feel like there's gonna be a lot of e-waste in the future of devices that need to be hacked, but they're so locked down and DRMed that it's impossible!

I think the entire industry needs to be regulated big time for the sake of the planet, and for the sake of our wallets...
