If it makes your day any easier, you can always say "them", "their", or "they". Yes, it's an odd way to refer to someone, but it isn't exacly impolite, either (not as impolite as "it", anyways).

Also, I'm 95% sure that Carmina is female, but that's besides the point. Carmina does speak differently due to an in-life dissability, which is something to consider when socializing with her, so do try to be nice about it, kay?
