IMHO almost every passionate author usually takes after stuff they like, and it eventually evolves into it's own thing. I know that most of my original works were more or less heavily based on stuff I really liked, before they eventually became their own seperate things.
The line between ripoff and inspiration is pretty blurry. This game looks pretty good however, but I'll wait for critic reviews.
