the King of Sorrow is Klonoa's future self, who fell into depression after a close friend dies (presumably Lolo) and because he was so depressed he fell into the darkness, and became sorrow itself. wanting to be freed from this, he knew only one person that could save him. himself. so he traveled to the past to get his former self to put an end to his suffering.
