Do you think the universe will keep expanding? What will happen when it stops expanding? Or it is possible the universe is being stretched and then it will rubber band back into what it was before?
Since Binarypulsar didn't comment on this, I'd like to see if I can.
It's a very good question, exactly. It's been theorized that either of the following two could happen:
1. The Universe will simply continue to expand, and expand, and as it stretches itself thin, over trillions of years, eventually all the stars in the Universe will simply die out, and that's it.
2.Eventually, the Universe will begin to collapse in on itself in said rubberband motion commonly referred to as the "Big Crunch", an opposite of the big bang. This could either lead up to another big bang, or just...nothing.
Though, what's interesting to note is that it's been recorded that the stars and galaxies are actually distancing FASTER than they were billions of years ago. So, it's seeming like the former may be more likely.
