I'm glad to hear that. Does this mean retaining any and all profanity or questionable language? Since this isn't actually an official release, I think remaining faithful to the original script as much as possible (like retaining Janga's and other characters' swearing) while putting a localized spin on things would be the best bet.

The most difficult challenge might be handling of displaying English texts. I checked MOTHER3 fan translation blog, it's a problem involving assembly codes.

This could be a good opportunity to flesh out the characters' personalities a bit more, a translation of how they conduct themselves to a western audience. They are quite emotive already, as evidenced by the cutscenes, but it'd be fun to make them more lifelike (and not rely on the usage of "memes" or western trends as a means of shoehorning in personality, as there's already a massive saturation of that in mainstream media, and quite frankly, it's just not funny or interesting at all).

I plan to keep all the profanity, or at least keep it PG-13 to that sense. Remember Klonoa catered to both kids and adults. I won't have words like '****' or '****' in there, though I'm sure there not really in this game.

Reading Aoi's translation script, Janga says "the s word" quite a bit, with Guntz and Pango saying it to a much lesser extent. Guntz points out that Pango "shouldn't say such filthy words", recognizing that it's mature language.

However, Japan is quite lenient on profanity and sexuality in media, unlike America. Unless it's a mistranslation on their part, "the s word" is definitely present in the script, although "the f word" isn't. I'm in favor of retaining it because it's what's originally there, and not to make the game seem more mature. Keeping to the source material and not censoring it because we should "think of the children" is my suggestion.

Although I'm sure of Klonoa won't swear. For someone who had got a cheerful, energetic and curious personality, swearing should be something "difficult". As for the other characters, Hmm...I don't know.

Klonoa does say "damn" in Empire of Dreams, which is silly because it sounds like something Guntz would say in Dream Champ Tournament, but he says "drat(s)" instead. I feel like censoring the language in the script takes away from the characters.

Blame the localization team please. As far as I know, USA branch of Namco did something silly to Klonoa before - Like calling him "world's first flying cat". What a bunch of imagination-lacking people.
I'll check the original Japanese version of the GBA games someday.

That's true, actually. Yeah, Klonoa didn't get the most pleasant of advertisements here in America.

Edit: However, it's still an official translation, despite how iffy it may be.

So if anyone wanted to know what our translation would be less like, play the English versions of "Empire of Dreams" and "Dream Champ Tournament" first.
